Great site! I have a 1 acre pond with a depth of ten ft sloping to 4 ft. There are four springs feeding this pond. I measured the outflow of water and it is roughly pouring in at 1,000 gallons an hour.(The pond was completely full in 35 days!!!)With this much inflow of fresh water can you advise on the need for aeration?? The pond was dug in August of this year.

I would still use a couple of botton diffusers centered at equidistances from each other. Spring water has virtually no oxygen in it as you may know. However where you are located and what species you plan to raise may have a bearing on your decision. And average temp of your pond in August would be important. Answers?

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Thanks Cecil. I stocked the pond with fingerlings from Zetts Hatchery(Drifting, PA)I bought their preferred 1 acre collection: 100 channel cats, 1000 minnows, 100 yellow perch, 100 shiners, 100( Oswego LMB ), 500 blue gill, plus many clams, snails, crayfish,& jumbo tadpoles. I did not want crappies. I live in northern Baltimore Co. , Maryland. What do you think about this collection??

MacTrev, Cecil is correct on the aeration. Consider aeration "soon" For sure prior to next (late spring early summer) for your area. The demand for DO is low now but will change as the pond comes to life. Search past posts for a "whale" of a lot of great information on your new pond and how to make and keep it a great pond good luck, Ted
