I am the President of a 51 year old lake association. Have silt traps been modernized in the last 20-25 years? Some of the ones that are in creeks and silt ponds leading into lake are nothing more than 2 concrete pads with wooden 2x6's raised to block silt, sticks, branches, logs, etc.
Please tell me there is a more modern way to do it even if its more expensive.

How often are the traps cleaned?

Twice a year however there are a couple of creeks feeding the lake where there are no silt traps at all.

yes, where the creeks enter the lake there is significant silt build up that is going to be dredged in the very near future. When this is done, I want to install more silt traps to limit the incoming amount of silt.
