Well, my father is building a house on 10 acres of land in WI. He is going to be adding a pond, so someone in our family has one to play with. \:D

Anyways, the pond is going to be approx. a 1/2 acre and L-shaped. He would like to put in a windmill aerator. Any suggestions on pricing, brand, etc that I can give him? The one price he received but that was his own research at a local shop was $1200 but it was an off brand I do believe.

Thanks for your time.

Here are just a couple suggestions.
1. Make sure there is good exposure to the wind from at least 3 directions. Catching prevailing wind is very important. A windmill is very poor if it doesn't catch wind from at least 3 ways. I've seen people put up windmills that have trees nearby on one or two sides - poor decisions and planning. A 1/2 acre L shaped pond will be hard to circulate and mix with just one diffuser. It is very difficult for the aerator currents to mix both embayments with just one diffuser. Windmills typically operate one diffuser.

2. The circulation in an L shaped pond will be much better if it is performed with 2 diffusers operated using electric 1/4-1/3 hp compressor. For self installation and same airline and diffuser an electric aerator system will be cheaper than a windmill. A 1/2 acre new pond in WI will not need the aerator operated 24/7. Six - 8 hours a day should be adequate. Lots of 1/2 acre ponds in NW OH are well mixed with 5-6 hrs operation.

3. Expect to pay $600-$800 for a good electric bottom aerator - this is less than the $1200-$1,500 for windmills.
