Do nothing. It will taper out on it's own. It's a bacteria that is ubiquitous in your pond or possibly even in the gut of your fish. The bacteria only causes a problem if your fish are stressed for some reason.

Do you know of any potential stressors in your pond? Rough handling during catch and release? Handling fish in very warm or under 50 degree water? Too many fish in the pond? Recent turnover reducing oxygen levels? Sudden temperature changes in the pond? Spawning? Predator stress? Disturbances in the water like rock throwing?

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Probably handling of adult CNBG from one lake to mine. That was this spring before the first spawn. They were in poor shape this late summer, before I installed the feeder they have fattened up some but some still have those red sores. The small<than 1 # that I got from Todd Overton look great but they are only 4-5" now so I was thinking the stress from being moved and prob. Spawning caused this issue. Thanks Cecil for the answer back.

Got a lot more learning to do! With all y'alls help the pond will survive

Pat,

A very good explanation of can be found at this link: Red Sore Disease

One caution -- if you should decide to treat your pond with potassium permanganate, be aware that it is an extremely fine powder. If it gets on your skin, or even on concrete, it will turn the affected skin very purple! Actually, it is kind of pretty! cry

Regards,
Ken

There's also a fine line between it working or stressing or killing your fish. Been there done that. I even tested the water itself to apply the least amount necessary. Still stressed the crap out of a bunch of fish.

Anything over 2ppm is risky and it's not recommended in hard water.

Maybe wait and see would be the right thing at this point . If stress causes red sore then being moved during spring spawning time could cause a lot of stress for the CNBG
Since starting a feeding program the fish are filling out to where they were when I first put them in

Thanks
