Keep the fly in the air before you lay it down.
Oh, and nice job sitting down while fly fishing!!! Awesome!

Thanks Sunil I did however catch a few bushes behind me a time or two! If I keep that up I am going to have to trim a few more branches I wouldnt want my fly rod to end up like Cat's rod!! Sorry Cat just I just had to go there! RC

Look for a video by Lefty Kreh on casting near woods or brush, he is incredible. Nice Gill!

RC that was great, but Brett's commentary made it that much better.

RC that was great, but Brett's commentary made it that much better. Hey Fire it sure did! I couldn't help but laugh with him on video talking. He is a hoot! I love him to death! He is a true blessing! RC

The one I was using in the video was a deer skin color slow sinking Nymhp. I tried to use something close to the same color as the fish food I feed.
I have also caught them on poping bugs, black and white and Bumble Bee. The biggest BG I ever caught on my pond was on a Bumble Bee poping bug. 11 inches. He hammered it!!

Great vid, RC and great times with your son! The Bumble Bee has been my go-to fly as well. Is yours similar to this one?

LL it sure looks close yes. It has like 6 legs and the legs move on the top of the water it looks so real looking! All I do is barely twitch the line to make it shake! What I love about them is you can throw it over a brush pile and keep it in the hot zone a long time!! They work great!! Only problem is the BG will tear them up and they are not cheap!! RC

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Cool video RC! Is it legal to cast sitting down? How about this for a fly casting idiot story... I was shown how to cast by a friend and he told me a soccer field or football field was a great place for a city boy like me to practice my casting. I'm out one day at the park and really starting to get the hang of it. The fly is starting to get out there and with fluid motion (kind of a cool moment for me because casting is hard!) So, like an idiot, my casts are going farther and farther but I don't realize that they are going of equal distance behind me, farther and farther. I probably have like 30-35' of line out (I know its not that great but for me it was). Out and back. Out and backkkkkkk. I end up, on the back cast, hooking a biker. Man can those bikers take drag!!! SNAP the tippet breaks and off he goes with my fly attached to the back of his hooded sweat shirt. I was so embarrassed I didn't say a thing and off he went. To this day, I wonder what he thought when he took off that sweatshirt and saw a wooly bugger firmly hooked into the fabric.

My brother hit my wife in the eye with a clouser minnow fly while fishing for steelhead on Elk Creek in Erie, PA.
Pretty much gave her a slightly detached retina which did end up healing 100%.
Kind of hard to apologize for something like that. Then again, my brother was a reckless caster and had no business trying to fly fish that day.

Ouch yeah for real!! How does one say I am sorry I hooked you in the eye cause I wasn't watching what I was doing??? Not good! I kept telling my son to move over to the right as I am left handed and did NOT want to hook him! There are some pine tree limbs above where I am sitting on that bench so it's even harder to stand right there and cast. I got to get them cut down sooner or later. I have had my kids and mom and dad up in them dang branches!! They gotta go!! RC
