These are my Moz tilapia, very hungry! They see the pellets flying and try to catch 'em out of the air… LOL.

Todd,

Please tell me you got a video of that...... smile

Is that one of your ponds? How many fish (Lbs of fish) per acre foot of water?

Thanks for all you do.

^^^^Ya what Brian said!!!! I sure wouldn't want to fall in during a feeding.

How long did it take to train them like that?

Not to derail OP but this is from my garage RAS a few days ago.

All my mozambique tilapia are recessive gene for color (orange/whiteish) If you see any dark fish in there they are my feed trained black crappie. Sometimes the first fish to the food lose because the crowd behind them pushes them into the air. Sometimes i see flips and other acrobatic moves.

I plan to add the RAS design to my aquaponics thread once it'd done. It's basically a 900 gallon swimming pool i found on clearance for $30 and some blue barrels cut up into filters.

Sounds par for the course for tilapia. Eating and pooping machines! If I get too close to my 600 gallon tank at feeding time they will get me wet!

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

My dang phone doesn't take good video, but what a nice snap-shot..!

Yes this is one of my ponds. I hope to have 2000#+ from this .4 acre pond. Running two kasco surface aerators on each pond, and still having to bump DO in the mornings with a PTO paddlewheel… They are eating me out of house and home… LOL

Word.

Is the reason the DO is low in the morning because of the whole night time + algae thing? or is there another reason?

The tilapia in my RAS are second generation Overton Tilapia

BCotton his D.O. issue I am sure is from a few things.

Think about it.

1. Yes algae is part of it at night it puts off Carbon Dioxide at night not D.O. so that's one thing.

2. He has 2000 plus pounds of TP in a very small pond. That's a lot of D.O. needed just for the fish.

3. He feeds a LOT to these fish and that can cause D.O. issues also.

He is pushing the envelope for sure!!! Can anyone say BIOMASS!!! smile

I don't know RC. It still baffles me as to why in the morning its low. With that many tilapia, shouldn't algae should be non-existent, and probably a lot of other plants? And so then if that is the case, why does it go low during the night if nothing else is using O2? My WAG would be the small phytoplankton or because of less wind at night to create wave action.

phyto uses O2 when sunlight isn't available. Typically in ponds, the low swing of O2 levels in the water is just before sunrise.
