A rare "blue" variation of a yellow perch I mounted for a client a couple of months ago. It was caught in Maxinkuckee Lake in Marshall county Indiana. Note it does have some normal pigmentation on the lower flanks. Here is it next to a normal colored yellow perch not long after it was caught.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Hello,
I have caught some color phased yellow perch also, but nothing in that size. is it only some thing that individual fish have or could you breed stock with it if you had both sexs with it?

Awesome, beautiful fish and incredible mount.

Wow that is very cool.
I have caught in Ontario Blue walleye around Port Loring. I have never seen a Blue perch.
Cheers Don.
EDIT: any chance that the lower fins were more red than Yellow? In Lake Onaping in Ontario we have caught some perch with red fins and blue like tops but never really gave it much thought till now.

Looks like sprkplg has some 'blue' perch in his pond also.
Excerpt from Robert Crais' "The Monkey's Raincoat:" "She took another microscopic bite of her sandwich, then pushed it away. Maybe she absorbed nutrients from her surroundings."

Be neat to isolate a few of those and breed a population of them..

Man, that would be an awesome strain to sell to pond folks! If I ever need a mount, I know who to come to. Beautiful work!

That's a perch that was caught off cleveland last month. The blue color is caused by an interaction on the skin from a harmless bacteria.

That could be one cause but the on I posted was a genetic mutation that occurs from time to time.
If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.
