Alright. I try! Theres been a number of times my house filter gets clogged in the night, and it will overflow my Cetus screen box. When this happens, solids that are on the screen get washed off by the high water and then go straight into the house filter and then end up passing that and into my bio box. I thought I read somewhere that heterotrophs get rid of solids, and autotrophs rid toxins from gills and urine?

We all try. LOL Things don't always go as planned. Been there done that a few times!
Yes heterotrophs do go work on solids but typically, but not always, in anoxic conditions. You want your solids out of the system ASAP and not something bacteria has to work on.
If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Okay, definitely clearer to me now. Much more work, and tinkering around than anticipated. But, really enjoying it the more and more I learn. This forum is bad azz though. Really the only pond/aquaculture one I could find that wasn't a dud.

Aquaponics Nation has some good stuff and Koiphen does too. Some really cool DIY filters on Koiphen.
