Wow.....

Give a man a fish, and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat and drink beer.

Still thinking this over confused! Once the dog has matured, are they friendly around people? And are the females just as protective as the males confused?

Just my opinion - they are the greatest large dogs that I have ever been around, but think it would a shame to make a pet of one.
They have been bred and developed for centuries as animal guard dogs - NOT human guard dogs.
I would not punish a Great Pyrenees by placing in a restricted environment.
They are work dogs.

As with any large dog, you need to have the dog socialized or under your control at all times. GP's are powerful dogs and you do not want an unwanted attack. It would not be pretty.

Hang Loose, you might have read this, this is just one description that I've found.

http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/greatpyrenees.htm

What I'm reading into this is that if you want to get one, make sure you get a puppy and have it grow up in your home environment, don't get a rescue dog like Mason. You've got the room and the fence and are used to having larger dogs.

Another site says that they are pretty vocal, so if you don't like a barking dog, then it may not be the breed for you.

I second esshup's advice. In the end, most folks love the dog they get and deal with any issues. You are entitled to make your own choose, and you consideration of what breed to get is a good indication that you take dog ownership seriously.

Great site and pics esshup! Thank you. I know I'm just seeing one side of the story but I've dealt with that before. Like you said "a puppy". Appreciate you guys patience with me grin

george1, are you talking about the house being a restricted environment or my back yard? If I do get one (next year), he or she will have a couple of animals to take care (besides dogs) wink .
