I have been catching mummichogs for bait. Its a tidal water minnow that I catch close to home. I do some saltwater fishing. I keep them in 5 gal buckets with aerators. I have white buckets and blue buckets. The ones in the white buckets turn pale and the ones in the blue buckets turn blue. And it happens pretty fast, just a couple days.
LMB that you catch in muddy rivers look more pale and the ones caught in clear waters have the nice green colors to them.
Any other observations about fish changing colors? Do other fish do this? I never had an aquarium before.

Almost all of them can go from pale to "normal" color fairly rapidly, if they have color to begin with. Few can change hue, but not many. My pleco is normally mottled dark brown, but can change patterns on the fly. Many fish get more color in mating seasons and can get fairly bright at those times. Now turning blue, do you have enough O2 in the bucket? J/k.

I have to try and find a red or hot pink bucket and see what happens.
