My pond's come back

I let my pond go, and left it up to nature to see what would happen and I lost. It took an entire year to get it back under control. And it is now doing very well, and it is still balanced. What you can not see is what was going on under water. The aquatic vegetation was so dense the fish probably could not have swam through it, even the little ones. It's doing very well now

I made two rakes from cutting a fireplace grate in half and tied about 50" of rope to them so I can throw them out as far as I can and pull it in. Sometimes the coontail would come in 3" wide and 8" long and would be too heavy to pull onto land. And I would have to break it off and then rake the rest.

Even before those pics more than half the top of the water was covered as well with water hyacinths. There are no more plants on top and very little beneath the surface. And I have added plenty of artificial habitat made from vinyl siding strips and cement. I will try to post some pics of that as well.

The last week of February I fertilized the pond and then again this passed Friday. In two weeks I will do my third fertilization of the year and then go to every three weeks if still needed. However I don't think I will need to fertilize every three weeks as directed because visibility is only a few inches now. . Last year the visibility was a few feet deep. I hated all of the work it took to bring the pond back but I loved watching the transformation occur.
