First time I ever had to use the Block heater here in South Alabama on my F250. It has got to be miserable cold up your way. Going to be 11 here in the morning. Good news is it will be back to around 70 on Saturday. Hard to keep my Sinus from having a problem in this weather.
It's all relative guys. Albeit these are historic lows for even us, we are used to colder weather than those of you down south.
It's really funny that when the temps get back up in the 30's up here by the end of the week, we'll feel like taking our jackets off if we've spent any time out in the weather this week.
I've also find if I spend some time ice fishing on a regular basis the cold doesn't even bother me anymore.
For myself the wind is the big culprit. I can be outside in 5 degree weather with no wind and feel as comfortable as 35.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.
RAH, you may be right. Luckily this cold is just a 3 day thing, it's supposed to be in the mid 30's by the weekend. Thursday I saw a yearling following a doe that was at the most 50# on the hoof. I was suprised it didn't have spots!
Well, its nature's way of weeding out the weak. Glad I live in a house or I'd be a goner! With all that I keep hearing about diseases in deer herds, its probably not such a bad thing.
It was 7 degrees F this morning when we were chopping ice. It felt better than the previous two days when the wind was blowing 15-25 mph and around 35 mph.
17 below zero at 2PM today here in Wisconsin! My pond still has an open spot due to a spring and wind aeration. One lone golden eye duck doesn't seem to notice the cold.
It's amazing how adaptable the animals are isn't it? For the most part 99 percent of the species on this planet have perished because they couldn't adapt. That 1 percent that have are some pretty tough cookies with special adaptation!
The jury is out on us. We haven't been around very long. We'll probably destroy ourselves though. LOL

Survival is all about the ability to survive in a given environment. If a disease comes ripping through, those with immunity will be the survivors. Scientists followed a group of lizards on an island and could not figure out how come individuals that did best and did all the breeding were bigger and bigger every year, until a drought where all the big ones died off.
The temps here in southern NJ where like a yoyo today.Around 2pm I ran to the post office and in less than 10 minutes it went from 43 and raining to 30 with freezing rain and snow, not long after that it was sunny and in the 40's again. When I left work around 4:30 it was still sunny but 33 and dropping as this wind came through.I knew it got colder but after dinner when I went to grab some wood for the fire I can assure you I was not expecting to step outside in single digit temps. It hasn't been this cold here in years.
Woke up to -13 degrees at 6:00am. Would love to just call it for today and go back to bed. If this doesn't make the pond thick enough to skate on nothing will.
-11 this morning. The Volvo almost didn't turn over.
Excerpt from Robert Crais' "The Monkey's Raincoat:" "She took another microscopic bite of her sandwich, then pushed it away. Maybe she absorbed nutrients from her surroundings."
-6F here with 35mph winds. Very rare for us to have these winds plus sub-zero, it usually requires a snow-covered no wind clear night. Especially rare with barely any snow cover.
Anybody know what the average underwater temp is this time of the year? I bet its a 50+ degree temperature change from below and above the ice around here. Fish have it made compared to the animals .
Well I have just spent the morning digging out three neighbors and my self. Attached is a picture of our weather. Feels like -34C with the wind and I have a mountain of snow in the yard.
Have to fix a sheer bold and then back at it. The 50km wind with -20C it is cold.
