George asked me to start this year's fishing thread and after talking to Nate and others, I agreed.

Lets pray for great fishing stories and great times with friends and family this year around our ponds.

FISH ON!!!

Here's to George, may he also enjoys fishing more this year as well!!

Retired but not forgotten!!

They are full grown birds but they won't let me get close enough to measure their wingspans or get a weight.... dangit...

But I feel fortunate share space with em.

So cool! Eagles are really re-populating in Missouri and there are a number of nests within 10 miles of me. I am hoping that a pair will someday nest close to me. I only worry what they will do to my chickens?

Todd, what's your guess on wing-span?

Very nice Nate. The smiles on the kids are always the best part. Fishing young changes lives.

Do I see some BG x RES hybrids in there? Great fish all around!

"Forget pounds and ounces, I'm figuring displacement!"

If we accept that: MBG(+)FGSF(=)HBG(F1)
And we surmise that: BG(>)HBG(F1) while GSF(<)HBG(F1)
Would it hold true that: HBG(F1)(+)AM500(x)q.d.(=)1.5lbGRWT?
PB answer: It depends.

Wow, if global warming keeps developing like it has this year, mid Missouri may well be a candidate for ice fishing. It feels like ice fishing weather today, 2F! You guys make me want to give that a try. Awesome fish. CMM

Our temps have been ranging from the teens to upper 60's the past few weeks and continue to date.
Son Jeff fished our "little pond" on a balmy warm afternoon the past Sundy.
He found the CNBG and HSB actively feeding and had a blast with a spinner bait catching HSB on a casting rod.
He don't do water temps or documentation except with a cell phone camera - he just catches fish... grin

We still (as of last week) had BG and HSB feeding at feeders which are set once a day for a short period.

Fishing a private pond I've been trying to access for 20 years last weekend with a buddy. Few weeks ago a 19" Black Crappie was caught there [saw video on local news] and would have likely broken the current NE State Record. Suffice it to say, I was pretty excited to finally get permission to fish this 40 AC NRD lake!

We fished hard and moved frequently and posted lots of dink BG and some nice LMB, but not any crappie worth mentioning. As we were about to leave my buddy was on with something big. Once we identified it as a Crappie and not LMB we were very careful to land...she went 18.25". I'd like to add I had two lively minnow/Thill rigs and a Slender Spoon jigging and tipped with a small fathead not more than 8 feet away. That's notable considering his fish was taken on a teardrop and half a mushy waxie that had been sitting for probably 30 minutes motionless. Oh well, I was pumped for him regardless. My turn will come someday!

Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after. ~ Henry David Thoreau

Mmmm... Some good eating! I wonder what the dynamics are in that lake that allow it to produce such nice crappies?
