Anyone think Christmas trees are a good structure idea for Golden Shiners or fatheads or other minnows? Shucks in a couple days they will be free.
Whats the best way to place them in a pond for this?

Don't just throw them in the water, because they then to clump-up when laying down. Most will tie block to base then add couple plastic pop bottles to various branches.

Yes they are good. You can use them a lot of different ways. See the structure archive link below. It depends on what goal you are trying to achieve. Bait fish growth and protection , fishing structure , deep water winter fishing or others. http://forums.pondboss.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=92463#Post92463 --- structure archive.

Don't you have to wait for them to turn brown before adding to pond? Seem like I read or heard that somewhere.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

I remember reading, a long time ago, that some Christmas trees are sprayed with compounds that can harm fish. Anyone know about that?

I haven't read that but still feel removing needles first can only help, allowing a bit more space for bigger fish to navigate through. I've recently read that some guys remove some interior limbs to create a more open "feel". Some all different may be the key on some waters.
