I was just listening to Rush who went off on a tangent about a friend of his who changes the sex of his tilapia. So he calls him The Fish God.
So I googled this and apparently in certain species, in the absence of a male a female will turn into a male.
Should I just give up on my all female perch pond now?

Very common in certain saltwater fish, unsure about freshwater.

Bullhead, the absence of a male will turn some women into a male also.

I can't think of any common freshwater pond fish the do this.

I would bet a fish sandwich that yellow perch can not.

I've also heard some males like other males if you put them behind bars (a cage). whistle

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Ditto.

Tilapia's sexes are changed via hormone or hybridization. I prefer the latter.

BTW how many of you know that for a short period after hatch out fish are neither sex? One can make all males by adding a male hormone to feed or all females by adding a female hormone.

Cecil, are you talking about the UCF guys in their cage's roustabout? If that is foreplay, I shudder to think of what the end result would be.

These fish are being raised in tanks in converted hog buildings in Iowa

No dont give up. Most pond fish do not do that in the absence of human intervention (egg manipulation , hormones or conditions).

No they do that to stay neutral and head to France if they wish to surrender.

Many freshwater African cichlids change sexes.

Look up the words "protandry", "protogyny", and "dichogamy." They are not limited to just aquatic species.

It is part of the reason why many states still want us to report our deer trophies checked by a conservation officer, rather than reporting by phone or text message as "antlerless" or "antlered."

Also, look at Third Gender

Nothing is truly as simple as it may seem.

Most times the odd ball combos end up in the trash pile of genetic history (extinct).
