Long time member with a question for all you gurus and geniuses, I have a piece of land I am thinking of putting a pond on, the land is just an old cotton field that has an area that seems to me would be perfect for a pond. I have included some pics as well as topo map images to see if yall think it would be worth it. Its in central west Tx with good loamy clay soil. This pic shows aprox. location You can see where the dark spot is as to about where im thinking Topo pic And some from the road Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated.

jmscalf, my biggest concerns would be the annual average rainfall, 24" I believe, and the lack of a defined watershed.
I might talk to other pond owners in that area first, and get a feel for how theirs have done the last few years. Hopefully, they've done well.

If the rainfall/watershed isn't enough, what about a well?

Im going on a limb and saying there's a 5 acre shed on that little spot, do you think that would be sufficient amount for something that size? I know a well would help but would it be worth it, or do you think I would be wasting too much time and money on it?
I understand there are a ton of variables with a scenario like that but forgive me I'm just wantibg to pick brains of ppl that know.

First step would be to get off the limb and shoot grade to determine the shed.
Then, figure out just how much pond it would support.
Third is to ignore rain dances. They haven't worked for me.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.
