Hey all new to PB here.

Last year we dug our existing pond 3/4 acre pond out that was full of muck (5-12 foot). The pond was dug out from the dam with a long boom excavator with a dozer helping to push muck up to the excavator. The pond was dug out about 15 foot at the damn and it shallows quickly (limited time digging). So of the 3/4 acre alittle more than half of that is a average 10 foot and then the remainder is very shallow.

The reason i am posting is the area of the shallow end is full of muck and i was looking into aerating the pond to help this out. I have power about 400 foot away and also have an air compressor the same distance. Would it be better to use my current air compressor and run 1 inch airline to waters edge. Then couple with weighted airline and then run it into the ponds center with a diffuser? Or should i run power and buy an aeration system, with a compressor at waters edge?

Any response would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks Joe

You might want to look into a windmill-operated system. Of course it would depend on your local wind climate.

I don't have one, but I have power within 100 feet and operate a small electric air pump I bought from Grainger for about $150. It's been doing the job - even 24-hours a day for months at a time - for four years now. I really should get a windmill unit since I live in the Columbia Gorge and the wind blows like stink all summer. $1,500 bucks is simply not in the budget this week (or year, or .....). In your case the cost would likely be a whole lot less than a solution relying on electricity due to cost of wiring, plumbing, and power usage.

Google "windmill aeration for ponds" and you'll see a bunch of suppliers.
