GShiner

Caught this shiner in the pond. Caught it hanging out at the feeder. They love the AM500.

How old would you guess this one to be?

How many of these would you need to stock per acre

Anyone on here know where I could source some of these in Oklahoma

They are 2 1/2 yrs old. I bought some in a bait store and put them in the pond. The bass were too small to feed on them. I did see lots of shiner fry the following spring.

During the spawning season, the males will get bright orange fins and turn a golden color. The females look like the one in your photo. Since it is not spawning season yet, hard to say which sex that one is...

You can also give them a light squeeze and if eggs or milt pops out, well you know what sex they are then.

Could someone tell me what the max size is on the G shiner? I have had them for years but have not seen any longer than 8 in.

Agree with kenc. Max length via FishBase 30 cm = 11.81 inches.

They pull off a big spawn sometime in the spring, but can spawn during the warmer months when water temps are between 68-80 degrees or so.
