I happened upon these gals and guy as they basked in the warm sun last week.
Wondered if they'd make reasonably decent cormorant deterrents.

The one in the middle looks like the best deterrent of the 3 of them!

Nice photos! Those are some beautiful animals. They look so happy and content. Alligators seem to lead a charmed life. Just lying around the pool, waiting on food.

All three do look like they're smiling.

Good dog eliminator also. Small kids are also fair game. I have some gator stories but not here. Will note one.

Have a large gator skull ( 36 inches appx.) on the cabin wall that came from a 12 footer. He tried to sneak up on a members $1000 duck lab (in a chain-link fenced area) about 40 yards from the water. Good thing the fence tangled him up. He swam off with a mortal wound and crawled up on a nearby bank. I found him several mths later and put the head in an ant pile. Came back and retrieved a clean white bone skull. Washed it off attached it to a cypress board and hung it on the cabin wall (with small chains as it must weigh 20 lbs). Scares the heck out of small kids when they first see it with wide open mouth full of teeth (a lesson well learned for them).

I have taxidermy catalog that sells some really life like alligator replicas of really large size. I've always wondered if one could cut them in two or three segments and run a water line from a small pump in them to keep them snaking back and forth in the water and also allowe them to drift with the wind. I'm sure if a bird knew they were dangerous he might have second thoughts about landing in the pond.

Even better would be a replica that floats and is remote controlled like the toy boats. Or even better yet a sensor that causes it to move toward any movement on the water.

Inside of that 3 foot skull was a brain the size of a walnut. They are programmed to catch something, kill it, and eat it, and not much more than that.

We have several golf course ponds in my neighborhood, and my kids know that they are absolutely OFF LIMITS - no fishing, no lollygaggin, nothing anywhere even close.

They will wear out a fish population too.

Not a fan of gators.

My drunk, river-rat brother-in-law found a dead gator once, and attempted to clean its skull using that same method. He neglected to tie it down. When he returned to check on it, it was gone.

When questioned about the skull's disappearance, his dog sheepishly walked away.

Glad mine stayed put. Deep in the swamp. But the critters could have chewed it up if they braved the ants.
