So how does everybody set-up for this?
I have been looking around in hardware stores and all they stock anymore is the wallhangers and window suction cup style.

Depending on what I'm doing, I'll either use a digital indoor/outdoor thermometer that has a 10' wired probe or one of these: http://www.ysi.com/productsdetail.php?550A-22

DWIGHT- I would have thought your setup to be some 007 Gizmo!!!! I wasn't thinking along the lines of one of those, thank you. So I assume this is for a quicky temp reading of surface water. You various depth readings must be where it gets high tech? ESSHUP- That's what I was hoping to find is a thermometer with the wire probe. Just all the shops around here don't sell them anymore. I suppose I could order online. Sorry, the other gizmo will have to wait. No more big purchases this year . ROBERT- I like that idea. Might just be the way I go. Easy to instantly change for depth if needed.

Look in the big box stores, smaller hardware stores, Wal-Mart, etc. Look for a plain indoor/outdoor thermometer.
Also try Amazon or e-bay.
