A friend of mine is struggling to get channel catfish established in a 2acre pond. It is on old pond with lots of little bream and the bass are small and hard to catch. Without starting completely over, what is the best method to get the catfish going? Do i need to establish more catfish reproductive sites? If so, what are some examples. Do I need to continue removing bass as I catch them or do I focus on the bream. I need some help, thanks! Any help would be great.

If bass are present, stocking anything is tough. I would buy the cats at 10 inches. They should be safe from predation and not be all that expensive. Getting them to reproduce isn't all that hard but the young rarely escape predation. Channel Catfish are more of a put and take fish.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

My understanding of catfish spawning is that they are sometimes successful in ponds if they have lengths of culvert sunk in the water to spawn in. You can probably find broken culvert sections free on craigslist. Not sure how to protect the young cats from the LMB though.

Anybody ever make a catfish den so you can dive down and noodle a fish out. Sounds like fun. I might do that down rode and make a video of it. I would feel way better doing it in my own pond then messing up a den in a river or lake. Hillbilly handfishing!
