I've been fertilizing since 1996. Water has always been clear this time of year. This year is different. My water is off color (dirty) probably due to cattle. With my disk, I read 18" of visibility. Water temperature is right for fertilizer but do I fertilize this off colored water ?

It will take more fertilizer than in the past. Fertilizer may actually help to lessen the turbidity but it will take more due to limited light reaching the phytoplankton. Repeat the first application after about two weeks and keep monitoring the visibility. If you have a DO meter you can put it on percent saturation and predict if phytoplankton is forming.

Boatcycle in Henderson, Texas 1-800-333-9154 They advertize in Pond Boss. Henderson is about 80 miles East of Fairfield but I am usually over in that area on business a couple of times a year. For a matter of fact, I will be over that way next Thursday. I don't know where your pond is located but if your in the Freestone County Area and you want me to pick you some up just let me know. (5 gal. buckets) The owners name is Ken Hale.

Thanks David, We have "chatted" before. I am not much of a typist. My lake is outside of Buffalo, 10 miles. I have never fertilized but think I will this year. How much does that cost in 5 gallon buckets. My lake is 12 acres. Thank You, Bob You can click on my web site and call me on my #800 number if have any questions.

Greg...you were right. The water has a much clearer (greenish not dirty) look now. I still read 18"-19" on my disk but the disk is prettier going down.
