Fight was very fun, I used my redfish rod with 15 pound braided line, handled it pretty well...Lots of drag was taken for sure.. No idea on weight, had to wrestle with the thing to get it in the transport cooler..

I've pulled some 15 lb carp out of some of our neighborhood ponds, and they didn't look quite that big... Nice fish!

When amur get that big they do not eat as many weeds as younger faster growing amur. Best weed eating amur are usually 12"-26" fish.

I am hoping he will eat more than a 0" amur. Plus with no supplimental pellets to eat he would have to eat something to maintian that body mass

Yes, large amur do eat to maintain body mass but the amount of vegetation eaten per day is not the same as with younger faster growing fish. One old amur eats more vegetation per day than no amur.

I have heard the advice that when a grass carp gets old you are better off getting rid of it. Doesn't make sense to me, seems like a big one eating a little is better than getting rid of it. Of course if you replace it you will have more results with the new one, but why not get fresh ones and keep the old one too?

My feeling is that if your pond needs three for its size/vegetation load, get 2 the first year, 1 the next, and another 1 every 3 years. (Based on expected life-span of around 5 years).

My pond has been eaten down clean...I have resorted to trying to get eel grass to grow in cages to protect them. A friend has a pond that is heavily vegetated and had none in it. Better off in that pond than mine at this point.

that fish is 13-14 years old best I can figure..Maybe 15... but atleast 13
It was health and strong but got beat up a little during the wrestling match getting it into the cooler on the shore line...
it swam off, hope it recovers ok being old....I will look arounf the pond to see if it floated up...Somthing that big should be noticeable floating dead after a week...
