Well, mother nature did it again. Last week's storm tore down my windmill which was anchored in 4 feet of concrete - actually pulled it out and mangled it.
Anyways, I've decided to bite the bullet and have installed one of the complete pond aeration systems that jones fish sells. I know it's probably overkill, but I am going to install the diffuser system with 4 of those babies on it and have most of the pond covered.
I am curious for those of you running these electric diffuser systems if you run yours all the time, or simply have it on a timer to run in the afternoon/late night type deal?
I'm done fighting mother nature on aerating the pond. The windmill looked pretty, but I am done after building two of them - total pain in the butt.

I was all about the wind systems when I first started looking into aeration - but after a good bit of reading on this site I decided against it - as soon as I have the scratch saved up then I'm going with an electric system.

dlowrance,
Well, I was a huge fan of the windmills - love the way they look. However, after replacing two systems, no more. The windmills work great. I'm just not sure what is going to hold them in place. I know the winds were crazy, but each side of the windmill was anchored into at least 4 feet of concrete piers 9 inches in diameter.
I guess the only plus is that with the other losses I have insurance is going to cover what the windmill would be to replace. So, that will take some of the sting out of the new aeration system. Plus, I'll pick up a total of four diffusers going versus one, and that has to help.

I'd recommend running the system 24/7, that will minimize the O2 swings. For the 1/3 ac pond, I doubt that you'll need 4 diffuser stations.
