That is the alligator gar that should have been caught on River Monsters! It could swallow a double digit bass and not think twice about it... I guess it fed on a lot of big carp and buffalo.

And on an old time recurve bow.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Would stocking a few thousand of them help with the asian carp?

Down south maybe, but I don't think they like colder water like the carp...

That's probably a 100+ year old fish?

Impressive catch, but I guess I subscribe to the old 'if I'm not going to eat it and it's not damaging to me or mine I'm not gonna kill it' adage...leave legends like that old girl in the river for the next guy to see.

We have lots of them around here, they will live almost anywhere, salt, brackish, or fresh. I have even spotted small ones (12-24" long) behind the beaver dam in the gully that runs down my property line.

I once caught one along with some choupique (bow fin) out of small deep pond that is connected to a shallow freshwater marsh on my dad's property.

It is hard to catch them on a hook, especially with an artificial lure. Usually they only strike out of agitation, often rolling on the lure which sometimes hooks them. I like throw them on ice to calm them down before trying to remove my hook/lure, they have some nasty teeth. They are good eating though.
