Now that my pond is two years old (where has time went), I would now like to add a dock with cover to use for feeding, fishing, and sitting. In my mine I'd like part of it to be on the shore and part of it out over the water. Do I build a floating dock and just tie it into a structure on the bank? Or do I build a permanent structure in the water and if so how do i drive posts into the pond?
I'm looking for ideas and guidance to be able to do it reasonable (in other words CHEAP) HA!
Thoughts?

Hire Nate Herman and make him to all the figuring and work. He built both my 16x12 and Condello's aircraft carrier/dock and they are well built, on budget, fast, solid...and you get an excuse to hang with Nate and the boys for a day or so. Better humans simply don't exist. Recommend Nate 100%.
I'm actually inventing projects for him just to get him back to NE...now I just have to fund them!

Good to hear as I was going to ask him when he delivered my fish I've ordered. Nice to have that kind of expertise so close teehjaeh, do you have some pictures?

Hey Boss...yes, I do. I will post some when I can find them, and if I can't, I'll go take some as I'm there often. Check out the Nebraska pond boss convention with Lusk post a while back and get a load of Bruce's 150,000 sq ft dock ala Nate.
Diving platform, 8 enclosed cage slots, boat slip...craziness. Mine was much more traditional, and smaller, and only required him 6 hours to complete with his crew of ruffians. That included a nice swim in my pond to cool off.

Yea I was able to touch base with Nate this AM via PM's. He is building 2 docks today in fact.
Like you I am looking for something simple. If I ever get my well put in I should be able to control the water level and then put something permanent in place. A combination of on the land and over the water.

Even with my well providing more stable water levels I opted for a floating dock and am very happy with my choice.
Figured in IL you didn't have much of a problem with precipitation...what's the annual in your location? We are at 29"...requires 33 acre watershed for a 1 ac bow of average depth - that's the rough math around here, at least.

We are running on the second year of a dry spell, though we have had some spotty rain off and on in the last month and half. I'm wanting a cover over part of the dock, so I'm not sure if a floating one can support that additional weight.
That is why I need some who knows what they are doing. I look forward to your picture even more now that it is a floating dock.

Floating dock can support a roof type structure I believe - just need to adjust number of floats. You really need to see Bruce's dock...he just came up with a general crazy design and somehow Nate made it happen. I don't possess any of that talent - when I see guys like him and Brettski go to work I'm impressed and embarrassed: IMPRARESSED. Just wasn't blessed with those talents, I guess. I do get to pay for it, though - and participate a little bit in the process...they make me feel a critical element of the team while lugging planks or gophering nails and Gatorade.
When I saw Nate and his crew cutting boards with their circular saws ON THEIR LEGS while standing I knew I was out of my league/universe. Unbelievable how they can wield tools like another appendage...made me wince seeing those cuts so close to the nether regions of the young bucks. Most the crew don't have families yet - I reminded them often of that...and despite the mileage of the joke they were kind enough to laugh every time.

Sorry Bossone for delay in response, we are backed up solid for a few weeks with no hope for getting in the office anytime soon. We have hired 2 new office gals and 3 more guys and still cant keep up.
