Hard to believe all of the wonderful information that's being shared on Pond Boss! Thanks for inviting me in. Prior to our purchase of this homesite, the developer created (loosly used term) a small pond in a low area at the rear of my property. Obviously used no grade elevations and planning, other than "A pile of dirt here, would make a nice dam". Thanks to the current drought here in Texas, I'm in the process of trying to renovate the "pond" and create a recreational area conducive to raising and harvesting a couple of varieties of "panfish". I'll post some of my questions on the proper forum. Thanks, again.

Welcome to Pond Bosss. What varieties of panfish are you looking to raise in your pond?

I'm thinking about maybe stocking hybrid species, to avoid over population, while providing the best fishing experience for the grand-kids. Not really critical. The pond will end up being just under 1 acre of surface area, with a maximum depth of about 14', several areas of 2' to 4' for spawning bed and some man-made coverage. So, I'm not "locked" into any plan right now, and am certainly open to suggestions. Your enviornment and mine are probably pretty close to being alike.

Hybrid bluegill might be a good choice for you then. There are a few other forum members that may have some sort of recommendation.

HBG and HSB with FH are an option for a put and take fishery. Feeding would be a big plus whit that option.

Where in NE Texas?

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

LOL....seems there are many lonely people in China this morning.....

Give a man a fish, and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat and drink beer.

I am a neighbor from Delta County in the hardwood forests of NE Texas and agree with Eric on HBG and HSB for a “put and take” fishery.
I know a LOT about HSB but nuthin’ abour HBG – if I can be of help, send a PM.
I know a little bit about ponds in our area – success and failure is good teacher... grin
