Looking for a shock boat at least 18 foot with at least a 60" beam. I'm not looking for a $70,000 Smith Root, but also not a junk boat put together with bailing wire. I'm in Texas. If I cannot find, I will be building one.

We build them, retrofit them, and design/fabricate all kinds of custom sampling equipment. You can check some of them out at www.midwestlake.com where you can find a brief overview of what we do (follow the Profesional Fisheries link on our site). We actually have 2 retrofits and one new, custom build in our shop as I type. In fact one of them is a retrofit for a client in Texas. He actually brought to us a new hull he bought from Gator Trax in Louisiana- so it's a pretty slick project. The other retrofit is for the US Fish and Wildlife Service, and the shiny new big dog is for a university professor in Indiana. We also just had a small video produced that is being editted now but you can see it nearly completed at: www.torchwerks.com/twclients/ben/electrofish.wmvOne of the edits that needs to be done is that our phone number is incorrect at the end of the video but it is correct on our website. We'll be gone for a week starting this Saturday for the American Fisheries Society conference and trade show in Seattle so if you're interested in talking, we might be hard to catch until next Friday. You're also welcome to venture to KC sometime between the 8th and 12th of Sept if you want to see firsthand three projects with varying degrees of complexity and cost. This current wave boats will begin their respective journeys to their new homes between Sept 12 and Oct 1. Just a thought, but it's a rare opportunity to have 3 different types of builds going on at the same time. By the way, the $70K you mentioned from S-R doesn't include a motor or trailer- at least with their H or EH models! We've done boat projects and/or provided equipment for state, federal and university biologists across the US, Canada, and even South America as well as independent ranch owners, commericial utility companies and private consulting biologist such as some that frequent this site like Wade Bales (SC), Greg Grimes (GA), Trent Lewis (TX), Todd Overton (TX), Nate Herman (IL), and Bill Wingo (TX). We occassionally deal in used equipment as well, but it typically goes fast.

Shaun Steve was given you as thumbs up earlier in the week. I just sold my old smith-root setup but still have an additional pulse box if I can get the 2.5 gpp generator to go with it I told Steve he could buy to setup his boat.
Question do you retrofit with smith-rott compotents or only work to install your new kick butt system? You might be gone already to Seattle I wish you the best.
The video looks good, get corrected for the show.

Thanks, Greg. We've installed SR stuff before. The video is fixed now except for the version on the video production compaines link.
It's too bad you have to buy the specially wound generator for the 2.5gpp, but I really don't think the 2.5 has enough power to shock waters in Texas. They deal with higher conductivities than you do in north Georgia. I think he will need a minimum of a 5000 watt system.

Glad it was fixed just in time. Blow their socks off in Seattle with the new box. Yes I think you might be right with the 2.5 it only does well in 1750 or less conductivity, depends on what part of Texas your in.

it will be awesome with diamond plate flooring Have you considered installing floatation-blocks beneath the new diamond-plate deck? Just a thought

Shawn's unit works great! If anyone knows or runs across a Smith Root 9.5 system for sale let me know.

I purchased a shock boat yesterday. Shocked two lakes yesterday with conductivity at 500 and 140. Boat worked great on both lakes. I've got a lot to learn, but ain't that what life is all about?

Not to cut in on Steve's new boat (congrats) but man did matt do a great job on the new and improved boat. Shocked in south GA today. Works and looks great. We used the pink foam you put on houses under the diamond plate. I think Matt might take some pics and post if we find the time.
