I was opening an aerator box the other day to check the filters etc. when I found this little guy. I guess they like the warmth and dryness of these boxes because I've seen more Black Widows in aerator boxes than I have anywhere else.

I had one drop out of an overhead fan on to my neck - I was lucky that time.

We have lots of Black Widows here in California as well and now the Brown Widow spider is calling San Diego home as well. Fortunately neither species is highly aggressive, that being said I sure wouldn't want to be bit by one.

Last year while moving some firewood I felt a strange sensation on my arm. I looked down at my arm only to discover a Black Widow crawling up my arm. Needless to say, I dropped the firewood, quickly brushed the spider off my arm, stomped it to death with extreme prejudice and almost "chambered a round."

I'm not typically afraid of spiders and snakes but to me the Black Widow is much like a sock puppet is to TJ.

Now I am much more careful when moving firewood.

JHAP, that's one thing that I noticed when I moved out there. Black Widows (I mean the spiders) are more prevalent out there than here.
