Yep, future generations pay for past generations mistakes.

Laboratory tests of dead bees determined they were "Africanized," or hybrids descended from swarms moving north from Brazil since scientists brought African bees to breed in the late 1950s.

But won't your vaunted green sunfish population put a beatdown on them? I thought they'll eat anything! grin

I used to be a hobbyist bee keeper with about a dozen colonies(hives). For some reason, one of them got mean and viscous. I tried to catch and kill the queen several times but never succeeded. The objective was to requeen with a bred European to tame them down.

I finally gave up, built a fire, and destroyed those suckers. They showed all the traits of Africanized bees and I can only assume that an Africanized drone bred a virgin queen when the old queen slowed down on egg production.

I would love to get some more bees but my wife is allergic to the stings.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Great, it's bad enough that I have to worry about bears, mountain lions, bob cats, murderous black tailed deer, carnivorous mountain hares, squirrels with bad attitudes and now KILLER BEES???

True story (as opposed to some of the less-than true stories that I may have accidentally posted) The first GSF ever caught at our pond was caught by JWHAP on a Bumblebee lure.
