Just installed a 1/3 hp Thomas pump with 100' of 3/8" air hose connected to 2 - 2' diffuser rings approximately 12' deep. What kind of air pressure should I be seeing om my air gauge? It is reading 8 lbs. is that about right? The guy I purchased the system from suggested it should run around 3 lbs. I have checked and made sure the line doesn't have any kinks or restrictions in it.
Thanks for any info, LLWC

324- Ideally 3/8" ID airline is too small for the 1/3 hp compressor. This ID in itself will tend to cause undeeded back pressure on the pump. The pump will fairly easily 'handle' it but in exchange the extra presssure will result in slightly increased wear and tear on the compressor, shortening it's life span and requiring more frequent rebuilds. The compressor with your attachments at 12 ft deep should be oprating at 6.0-6.5psi. Assuming the gauge is accurate, additional pressure is due to your small 3/8" ID airline. FYI - air pressure of 3psi will only release air at 6 ft deep max, IMO your saleman needs an education in air pressure and water depth.

Thanks Bill for the info I was kind of thinking along the same line but the guy I bought the system from is suppose to be the "expert". I am going to forward your reply to him and see what he has to say! Thanks, LLWC

324 - There are lots of pond mangement "experts" out there providing advice. Maybe in your case there were some misunderstandings or confusion.? Let's see what he has to say.
