I have just purchased 6 acres of land and would like to have a 1 or 2 acre pond built on it. I am paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair so I would have to have almost all the work done for me. Does anyone know of someone in the wilmington nc area that is experienced in pond building? Or can someone maybe point me in the right direction. I want this to be done right.
Thanks Eric Melton

Eric;
A good place to start is with the local office of the National resources conservation service. This is a federal agency, with one located in almost every county across the country. These folks will tell you everything you need to know, from site selection, to cubic yards of earth that'll need to be moved. Very helpful. Look them up in the blue pages of your phone book. Good luck.

Eric:
Good to have you aboard.
Saw where you are about to build a pond, and are seeking some design help. As indicated by one of our visitors, the NRCS could help you. COULD. I have found NRCS agents to be quite limited in their knowledge and experience with ponds. In Texas, if it doesn't moo and give milk, those guys have little interest.
For fewer delays and greater individual support, I suggest going the private route. Find Johnny Foster in Garner, NC. Address: POB 1294, Garner 27529-1294.
Johnny is a top hand, and a veteran fisheries consultant. He makes the science easy for his clients to understand.
Better yet, once your pond is designed and built, Johnny can give you good practical advice on stocking and managing the new fishery. Try to get THAT with the NRCS.
Most recent phone number I have is 919-772-8548. Give him a call. And tell him Pond Boss sent you.
