My cousin, active duty in the Air Force, just got this email from the Secretary of Defense: “As an active duty essential personnel, you will report for duty as normal, and work with no pay until Congress provides the appropriate funds.”

I live next to DC... It'll be fun if the gov't shuts down, especially if it's for an extended period of time. They said there could be 3 rush hours in DC instead of the normal morning and evening rush hours. Workers will report Monday, then be sent home... So, there will be a heavy morning rush hour, then a moderate late morning one for all those workers sent home and then a moderate evening one. Craziness! DC has some awful traffic, maybe 800,000 people sitting at home will help that out anyways?

Sorry Bruce. I don't normally start threads like this, or even participate anymore, but thought it might work ok here with these guys. I have no qualms if it's closed based on potential for "implosion" alone or if it's kept on a short leash.

My cousin and his family live paycheck to paycheck. They cannot afford for this to go beyond a week. I just hope and pray this is resolved quickly so him and the other most deserved employees of this nation can continue to live their lives without fear of where next month's rent will come from.

The corrupt center of power in Washington should be abolished and reincarnated using the Constitution of the United States of America as it was written by the founders of our great nation.

Make sure our fine military personnel get everything they are owed (on time),
and to hell with the rest of those worthless losers in Congress.

A general discussion of all Gov in DC is not political (right vs. left). People on all sides can be disgusted equally. The second it goes beyond that - its hasta-la-vista baby. Maybe they will all go to the zoo and be lunch for the deserving residents.

I hope we can include all Washington branches of corruption which have brought this country to the brink of suicide.
It's beyond sad what they have done to this great country and I don't have much hope that we will come back from the brink, but for the sake of good decent people who love this country, maybe.

Will this affect travel into the USA next week on our way to the conference?

What kills me is the ones that reinvent themselves as "outsiders" to run for office again when they've been insiders and big spenders all along.

If I had my way we'd charge many congress critters with stealing from the national treasury and have them do some jail time. But the problem is they make the laws and would weasel out of it.

They are supposed to be working for us, not for themselves.
