I was wondering if I could check my ponds water conditions by using simple pool strip tests that can be swiped into the water and matched with a color chart to show levels? Or is there a better way to do this? I would like to find out what the current conditions of the water. As of now I have no clue : )

I've done it but figure on about a possible 25% error rate. Much better to find a lab to do it for you.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

There should be a county agency that will test the basic parameters.

another option might be to buy a fresh water aquarium water chemistry test. a company called api makes pretty good ones. this would be much better than strip test, and would be more convenient for testing over time.

Test kits using chemical reagents are generally better for somewhat better accuracy than test strips esp for some tests.
