Hello everyone...I have about 6 ft of open water around the pond-the rest is still covered in ice. My question is I am seeing a lot of algae already around the edges-I am also seeing alot of tadpole (great for my bass and walleye) should I treat the algae now or is it too early? If I do treat it now will it kill my tadpoles?? What should I use to treat it??
Thanks,
Dave

Dave:
What you are seeing is cold water algae. It will die on it's own when the water warms up in a month or so. Then warm water algae might start to grow if you don't have other plants in the pond that can use the nutrients in the pond. I think amphibians are more succeptable to poisoning than other critters. I don't know if they would be harmed by the algacide that you use or not. If it was me, I'd just wait until it died on it's own.
