Sounds a little low on BG. Why do you want HBG generally they dont breed near as well as BG. Thats alot of CC too.

Wait for a pro before you stock anything.. Your numbers are off and you dont want Hybrids and regs also i dont think you need Grass Carp. Also is the pond new. If so you wanna stock your forage a year before you predators to establish a base.. Theres alot of flags popping up but i dont have the perfect answers for you so just hold tight..

I believe in catch and release. I catch then release to the grease..

I have to agree with BK here. Wait before you do anything. There are some gents on this site that can give you much closer numbers to what you need. I think your a ittle off here and there but lets wait and see.

Thought about doing less CC. Wanted the grass carp because pond is spring fed and weeds are bad in that area. Checked around on the Internet and it says 6-10 per acre. If BG and hybrid BG are not good to mix than I might just go with all BG maybe like 800. I just wanted hybrid because there fun for the kids to catch. What about the other # of fish does that look right. Fathead, shad and the bass

I would stock at least a 1000 BG, no HBG. Don't stock anymore CC than what you want to catch. They are so cheap that you can stock more when ever you want. Just make sure they are big enough to not be eaten(about 9") by your bass. For the LMB, 100 should be enough. 15 pounds is good on the fatheads. Since you are starting a new pond you don't need to stock 10 Grass Carp. I would start with 5-6 and stock more if there aren't keeping up with the amount of veg growth after a few years. I would not stock shad. If they are Threadfin Shad, they will probably die the first winter and you don't want to stock Gizzard Shad.

Stock BG at 20 to 1 rato vs LMB. Stock LMB a year after forage goes in.

Skip the HBG. They take and don't give anything for a balanced pond.

Skip the carp until you need them.

Fathead numbers sound good.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

What sizes was the fish.. I woulda atleast waited a year to add the predators. And 100 CC seems like a alot or potential problem later but not bad if you keep in check.. You bow hunt? you should start because in a couple years youll be asking how to get rid of those carp lol.. I think your pond will do good with this spread.
Good luck.

Well, the biggest thing is... What are the goals for your ponds? Goals dictate what and how much you stock. What part of KY are you in, that can also factor in to it...

Just a pond by the house 1.5 acre. The grass carp can't reproduce so there will only be 10. Checked everywhere and that's about right for the acre of water. Would like big bass some day and BG so the kids will have a good time. The Ky fish and wildlife recommended more cats but I only got 100.

If you want big bass, 150 for 1.5 acres is too many bass. You also would want to double the number of BG stocked. I'd stock 75-100 LMB and 1000+ BG depending on the size when stocked.

Despite what Ky said, the general rule of thumb is to stock 1,000 fingerling BG per acre for a new pond. So, 1500 BG for your 1.5 ac pond, or 1,250 BG, 250 RES, or 1,000 BG, 500 RES - you get the picture. I'm having a heck of a time catching CC out of my pond, and won't stock them again. They are taking up biomass that I'd rather have occupied by an easier to catch fish, such as HSB. If it was a new pond, and I could, I'd wait on stocking the predators at least until the Fall, or the following Spring. I'd wait on the GC until you know that you have a weed problem. The thing about them is that they prefer certain weeds to eat, so if those weeds aren't growing in your pond, they won't do such a good job of controlling them. They don't eat algae either.

What is you elevation ? You may be close to the line on whether to stock as per northern pond suggestions or southern pond suggestions.

What are the sizes of the fish?

Eric, that is why I asked him where he was in KY... Most people give southern stocking recommendations. You do that up north and you're almost guaranteeing a stunted mess of BG. Virginia like Kentucky is on that north south line and you have to be careful depending on what part of the state you're in and the elevation you're at. And again, it all depends... On many things.

I would recommed getting some shiners in you pond they get bigger than fathead minnows so they wont be wiped out by the bluegill.

urup - Are you planning to feed the fish pellets? It would be a good idea to put in spring all but the bass. Add the bass in this fall (2011) or spring of 2012. If you do this the bass will be bigger after the first year, grow better in 2nd and 3rd years and spawn sooner.

well had a hard time finding someone to get fish from. I found someone and he stocked it 2 weeks ago. I went ahead and got the bass but not as many. Probley should have waited on them but got free delivery since i bought so many fish. Went with 20 lbs. of FHM so maybe the bass will eat them instead of all my BG. Yes i am going to feed them. Got the feed just waiting on the temp. to go up so i can.

Any more suggestion would help
