They did a great job! I'd be happy with either the deer or the hog. Details on the hunts??

Jake took the deer at 80 yards, his first buck, he's my neighbors son, not sure if he quite understands the size of his first buck, although he was really excited. My son landry is eleven and he has decided he likes to shoot hogs rather than deer. He shot the hog with his .243, it ran about 60 yards and down it went. Both boys are very appreciative of what they killed and both enjoyed eating some of their kill, I on the other hand was not real excited about eating the big boar! The buck had a 22" spread and enormous mass!

Congrats to both. Yeah, the big hogs aren't all that great.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

That is a lot of mass on that buck!!!
About the big boar taste -- I "donate" the big ones for that very reason.

Congrats to both. Yeah, the big hogs aren't all that great. I think it's just the big boars that aren't that good, but I could be wrong. I've only shot sows, and they all were around 250#-300#. They all tasted fine. My buddy shot a boar that was right at 200# and the taste was completely different. Yuck!! My mom is a picky eater and she couldn't tell whether my chops came from the grocery store or whether it was wild game. (I didn't tell her)

Mature boar hogs and bear are generally not edible, even if made into strongly seasoned sausage. No matter what you do to the meat, it still smells like urine. Ram/buck goats and sheep fall into the same category -- although some cultures savor it. It is my guess that anybody who is at least 2nd or 3rd generation in the US or Canada, would not tolerate the smell and taste.

The buck came from Johnston county in southern Oklahoma.
