Hey-lo, I'm a new member of the forum. I'm here because Big Tim said to come. I'll try to be worthy.
My raison d'etre is a 1/4-acre pond that comes with the property I moved to in March, up in Humboldt County, CA. (Know any good pond contractors here?) Soon I noticed weird spillway behavior—surface runoff appearing part-way across the spillway, disappearing into the ground, and emerging through the hollowed-out roots of an oak tree farther down, having washed out all the soil there. Constant leaking through this area all summer. Additional sins: no emergency spillway, and a willow on the embankment, right next to the water (see my post in Questions & Observations, "Removing tree on embankment").
I drained the sucker to dry it out so that heavy equipment can get at it. I had a consultant look at it, and a couple of local guys with backhoes. I'll work with them if I can't find a real expert, but I'd really like to show it to a top-notch pond guy who knows the squishy soil we have here, which we alternately call Blue Goo and Tectonic Toothpaste. Who's good in Southern Humboldt?
I look forward to discussing the finer points of aquaculture once I get the repairs over with.

As much as I would like to head your way, I think your best first option is to contact the Natural Resources Conservation Service in the USDA building. They are in the soil business and should be able to guide you. If not, they'll know local folks who can help. Start there and let us know.
