This photo is in today's newspaper that covers the county where DIED lives and where my pond property is. This photo was taken on a property just a few miles down the road from my place. DIED has found mountain lion on his property on several occasions. Fortunately the mountain lion have not found DIED.

It kind of has a look in its eyes that seems to be saying "I can't wait for winter again so that fulfilling looking accountant can come back and get his car stuck again. The last time he was plodding through the snow, I was sooooooo close to a winter's worth of feeding, but as luck would have it, his car got free and he was gone. I just hope the growing season has been good to him this year because I have a bigger family now!" Or something like that.

Oh great. Give me something else to be afraid of while doing battle in the wilds of my property.
Stupid, stupid nature.
Oh and regardless of what DIED says, I'm quite sure that the grey squirrel that I encountered was carnivorous and was in fact performing threatening gestures toward my person (or at a bare minimum disrespectful gestures).

JHAP, don't worry. All the Grey Squirrels are interested in is nuts..... I think I remember you saying that you like to have deer around the place. Well, deer are one of the primary foods of those largish kitties...... The squirrel might work out a deal with the kitty and both will be happy!

Don't worry Jeff, you know the IRS code. That ought a stop them.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Great AP, now even more to worry about.... mountain lions, squirrels with an attitude, demented mountain mares, fast attack poison oak... I'm telling you I don't stand a chance. notice it is in a digger pine, we have hundreds of those on our property.....i guess i better start looking UP......... Up, down, sideways. I'm telling you right now if we ever encounter a Mountain Lion on our properties I'm chambering a round (and not in a good gun/protection way).

Jeff, those kitties are easily pacified by petting their belly.......once you're in it that is.

I have yet to see one but I hear one at night…last night it sounded like it was coming from the berm which is about 200 yards from my studio. There are always deer grazing on the grass around the pond in the evening and morning. A neighbor (who has seen a few of them around us and shot one) told me that the previous owner found the remains of a deer (twice) the year before last down by the pump/creek. I once knew an animal trainer in Southern California who had cougars for TV commercials and the movies; they are big (quiet) dangerous animals. The female in heat can sound like a woman yelling "Help!". Since a lot of our property is wilderness and I like to explore, I always carry a small little Ruger (SP101) with a nice crimson trace.
The poison oak is everywhere...getting rid of it has been one of my obsessions.
