My 5 acre pond is just basicly a waiting game. Now its time to get a fresh start on my nearly 1 acre pond. Planning on treating the water to kill off snails and bullheads and anything else in there to get a fresh start on this one. I'm putting together a solar power aerator system and plan to set up and automatic feeder. I wont feed too heavily, but enough to help them along. The pond is .9 acres and 5 to 10 feet deep with most of it 7'. located in southern Wisconsin. cattails on one end. I plan to start with a good amount of FHM to start. I want to stay away from just doing a bass and bluegill pond on this one. I'm leaning towards stocking just HBG. How many HBG could this pond hold? I will start fishing them when they are big enough. can I do just HBG amd FHM or do I need something else? The other idea I was kicking around would be YP and Walleye. How many walleye could this pond handle? goal would be to have eater size walleye and perch with maybe some trophy perch. I realize that the Walleye and HBG would not reproduce. I would add more yearly or every two years. Would grow them out in a pen so they wouldnt get eaten right away. I would also consider another bonus fish like albino CC or something. Let me know what you guys think I should go with and how many. thanks a lot.

I wouldn't do a pond with just HBG as you'll end up with their limited spawning being a success with some offspring surviving. You don't want those offspring surviving and they are generally inferior. Perhaps a HBG and stocking 20 or so albino CC per year as a control on the HBG offspring and a novelty catch could be considered... I am not completely sure they could completely keep up with the HBG reproduction though.
The verdict is still out on the success of YP and WE in a smaller pond. There is a recent thread on here on how another forum member is progressing with his WE and YP in an approximately 1 acre pond.
Do you know if HSB are legal in Wisc? If I recall correctly they aren't, if they are they may be a good combination with the HBG....

My hole in the ground wanna-be pond is in southern wisconsin near juda. after talking with DNR (name escapes me for now but very helpful, Hybrid Stripped bass are not permitted in Wisconsin as they are not native. I will not be stocking until next year but I will be trying the YP, SM and WE in main pond about 1.50 acres. The smaller pond .5 acre will have rainbow and CC. I am thinking about BG males only after reading the last issue of Pond Boss for the smaller pond.
mkling, where did you purchase your fish if you bought them? I have spoken with Tim Gallon and was pleasantly impressed.
13 acres, 5 ponds 1 still working FHM, Shiners, CC, SMB, WE, Yellow Perch living the dream Can't have everything...where would you put it?

I bought fish from Tim Gollon. Very happy and pricing is good. Plan to buy my next fish from him also.
