Thought you guys might enjoy this. Brand new pond, just filled up this winter. Transferred a handful of bluegill last fall and hadn't paid them any attention as we moved into winter and the pond filled up. However, saw a couple mergansers land last weekend (1st time) and decided to get out the video camera. Within 30 minutes I discovered that at least one of the fish survived Merganser

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

That's a Merganser? I have seen sev. similar looking "ducks?" in my very very droughtstricken 2+ac. pond, plus a very diligent sand chrane. Is there a better pic. of Mergansers for pos. ID? I know they are (whatever they are) eating a lot. Dave, killem? ThanksTYZ for vid.

That has "death to ducks" written all over it.
Excerpt from Robert Crais' "The Monkey's Raincoat:" "She took another microscopic bite of her sandwich, then pushed it away. Maybe she absorbed nutrients from her surroundings."

This is the best I could pull from my pics to get the coloring and tuft at the back of the head. common Merganser I think. Not as showy as the Hooded variety. they're part of the duck family I think...but not exactly vegetarians. Haven't seen them since...but my wife spotted a bald eagle a couple days ago. He can take what he wants Merg 2
