I have been trying to kill weeds around the pond in the rocks. I used round up but it only will last a week and then new weeds start growing. Whats the best thing to kill weeds for a long period of time? Also I get these tree looking plant that grow everywhere. What are they and how to kill them. They will even grow in the water.

Boy, it's hard to identify them without pictures. Is there any way that you could take some close-up pictures of the weeds that you are concerned about?

Check with some of the advertisers on here for a product called "Shore-Klear Plus". Here's the label , I don't know of another product that will sterilize the soil that is labeled for use around the pond. But, I wouldn't treat the whole edge of the pond with it, but that's my personal views. I like to have vegitation at the pond edge for most if not all of the pond, it provides for some habitat and helps with erosion.

Is there a pre-emergent treatment that is safe to use on rocks around a pond?

I don't know if Preen is labeled for use around ponds. That only stops seeds from germinating, if the plants come back from roots or grow from rizomes, Preen won't work.

Someone told me that he just mixed up copper sulfate with water and put it in a pump and sprayed it on the weeds in the rocks and that killed them. I haven't tried it yet but that is what he said he did with them.

Consider Habitat (imazapyr) herbicide. Also available as generic. Takes a week or two for the effects to become apparent so be patient.

I'd be very careful trying to sterilize a pond's edge. One, it is not natural, two, big time possibility of water contamination. I actually put in many, many marginals in new ponds for poeple that don't like the bare rock generic look. And if I have a overgrown shoreline, I weed eat, brush cut and chainsaw. At the very end I may use some long term herbicide solution to finish the job, but only if I have to.
I might think of something to replace and crowd out the weeds that would look good pondside in the rocks. In places where I wanted nothing I would use a weedblock fabric.
