HI, I'm a newbie. I'm researching a setup for grass carp. I would be building a shallow man made pond. I have a very tight budget. Are there inexpensive DO level actuated aerators? Could you recommend any? Thank you for your time.

Hello Arden,
As for inexpensive DO Level Monitoring Assemblies, there are none. YSI has a nice assembly used mainly in Aquaculture but the assembly alone without the probes is $1750. A 10-m DO probe and cable is another $1095. Then the system itself starts for around $1,000 depending on the amount of tubing required.
Unfortunately, if you are budget-limited, then the one thing you can control is your labor cost. That means that you become the Level actuated DO system by measuring throughout the day and turn on or off the system. Doing this for a week will give you a good idea when you can expect your lowest DO levels and you may be able to set a timer to turn on the system during those times.

Welcome, Arden. Hopefully some of the aeration experts will chime in. If not, you may email Cary Martin or Ted Lea, with Forever Green, an advertiser at the top of the page. When you mention D.O. monitoring, that usually means $$. When you couple it with automatic turn on/off of an aeration system you are asking about something that is probably not mass produced. Just my hunch, I hope your budget is not too tight. I have never seen this mentioned on the forum. Am interested in any comments.
Good luck.

Well, looks like I doubled with Cary, then walked away for the day. I hope Arden gets the picture. Better start saving up.
