No i dont have pictures (dropped my camera in the water). Anyway. I have at least a few hundred (?) minnows in several small groups swimming around today. I am not sure how old they are but i am at the pond every day and this is the first day i have seen them. I noticed in the last week the minnows were acting very skittish, normally they dont run from me at a high rate of speed. They will go a few feet then if i hold still they will come back. Not lately. They see me and they are GONE in a flash! Maybe they were naked? The new fish are only about 3/8 of an inch long. Any guess how many days they have been alive?

Gambusa and FHM i presume, thats what type i put in. Since this is my first time seeing them this small i cant determine with certainty. They are minnows, i can tell that for sure.

Went out to feed (i feed by hand till i get a feeder)this morning and found 7 schools of minnows even smaller than the ones above. Must have been at least 50 in each school. These were 1/4 inch long or so.

Edited: I went back out and observed again and im pretty sure i was very conservative on my count. Looks like there is twice as many compaired to what i got to see. I didnt have the kids running in front of me this time to scare them off, so i really got a good look.

Probably gams.

Mine just started having babies. Haven't spotted any yet, but netted females with slack bellies. I don't think there are any fathead babies yet, even in FL.

Could be. All i know for sure is there are hundreds of them all the way around the pond. When i walk slowly i can see just how many are there before they either go deep or go out toward the middle to get away from me. I hope they survive. Anyone know how long it takes for a mimmow that has just been born to get to spawning age?

Depends on the species, but both gams and FHM will be able to be spawning by the end of the summer if they are born around this time.

Ya-hooo! Congrats me amigo - what a feeling that is. I still am very excited whenever I see YOY in my pond - forage fish or BG ect. Get your sampling net in there and find out what is swimming. Be careful NOT to touch any fish that size or they will become morts...just handle them through the net and show us some pics!

TJ, Now that the camera has dried out all I need to wait for the newly improved, easier picture posting method you told me about on another thread. Once thats on place I will be posting pictures I have taken of them. Yes, its really cool to have yoy in the pond. I'm lovin it! The things I have learned here has opened up an new world of information that I wish I had access to when I was 25 yrs younger. I might have a different way of making a living than I do now.

Welcome Zach... You may want to start your own post so your question gets more exposure. However, if you do have emerald shiners and not a more common species of shiner like golden shiners you're going to struggle to spawn them. Emerald shiners are BIG water fish. They do best in very large lakes and rivers and don't do well in even small lakes let alone ponds. I don't believe emerald shiners have ever been successfully spawned in an aquarium.
