I have never heard of any baramundi stocking being done in the US, legal or illegal. I would imagine, if they had been stocked and took hold, it would be fairly well known.

There were two species of peacock bass stocked into south Florida legally by the Florida FWCC. Butterfly peacock bass have taken hold well in much of southern Florida. However, with the record cold this past winter brought, their northern limit has probably been shifted much further south than in previous years... The speckled peacock bass is the other species introduced, however it has not done well in south Florida.

There was a company doing aquaculture in the US.

Usually they are a brackish water fish, but can be raised for fresh. I have been told that they will not breed in my pond. They don't fertile until about 8 years old and change sex at the time.

I just took the last one in my pond last month, 30" at 4 years old. They act a lot like LMB.

They are farmed here and demand a premium price, roughly twice that of tilapia.

Based on the hunting style and difficulty with breeding I would think that the peacock would be a much larger threat.

I know that at one time you could pay to fish for them in Florida in ponds on private property I don't know if you still can or not.

Remember though, Rad only stocked baramundi in his pond so he'd have another pick-up line at the local Thai bars.

His ringer was "would you like to come to my place and see my baramundi?"

9 out of 10 times, he'd get slapped. But the 10th time was magic.

Excerpt from Robert Crais' "The Monkey's Raincoat:"
"She took another microscopic bite of her sandwich, then pushed it away. Maybe she absorbed nutrients from her surroundings."

I saw on Hank Parker he amd one of his boys fishing for them in FL a few weeks ago. It looked like a lot of fun. They put up a pretty good fight.

It was the Baramundi. I believe it was a private farm of some sort but I bet you could find it if you did a search for Hank Parker. I think it was on the outdoor channel but they were catching quite a few.

Us fat ugly old men need all of the help we can get.

The first link is the farm, the second the fishing ponds in Florida.

Here are a couple of examples of how big they can get.

Cisco, was it Hank Parker or Scott Martin. I saw a show with Scott Martin and his boys fishing for them. They looked pretty fun to catch.

I saw that show too, now that you mention it. If I recall, he had told his boys they were just going to catch small fish. Then one of them hooks into a fish who jumps out of the water and it's HUGE. The look on his kids' faces was priceless. Great show.
