The temperature of the surface water at my pond is 70 degrees. At what temperature can I expect to start seeing my BG and CNBG eat my fish feed? The feeders are going off but I don't see any fish eating the food. I have caught plenty of BG on hook and line but they are all big. I don't think I have seen a smaller fish (3-4") is a relly long time.

I just don't know if the HSB and LMB have eaten everything thing I have stocked or not. Below is a pic of the BG I have caught. They are all this size.



Do the smaller fish stay down and remain docile longer than the larger fish?

There's definately a pecking order with the fish. Did the fish feed well last year?

When the feeder goes off in the pond, and the BG are hitting the food, there usually are a handful of LMB cruising the perimeter looking for smaller BG that aren't paying attention. I figure that if the LMB won't directly eat the pellets, they will indirectly!

I had an oxygen problem last year in late August. After that I have never seen them come to the feeders. I did stock some additional BG in December and I was hoping to see them start to feed.

at 70 the BG should be hammering the pellets hard. what size and type feed are you using? I would go with something like aquamax, or if you make a trip to Angleton, go by Rangen and get some 42 to 46% 3/16 inch feed.

I notice my gills are really hitting the feed early in the mornings and late in the evenings. The Aquamax 3/16 is the way to go. You might call around to find it near you. I found a place in Tomall that where I get mine.

My water temp yesterday was 66. The BG and cats have been gorging themselves for about a month.

This weekend the temperature had increased to 77 degrees but I am still not seeing any BG at the feeders. I can catch them all day long on rod and reel but they just aren't feeding. I think the bass have cleaned out the smaller fish and the bigger ones must be feeding on minnows.

I am going to stock some more HBG and Tilapia real soon. I have FA all around the perimeter of the pond and it is full of FHM and what I think are common minnows. I caught a LMB on Sunday and it was really fat so I am not too worried about it all. I just need to get some more fin fish in there to supplement the minnows.
