Is there any issues in spreading lime and or aluminum on the pond when it is ice covered. I have considered throwing the lime onto the ice so it would travel farther on the ice to the middle when it melted.any thoughts!!!!

I don't know how it will affect it. I do think that once you spread it out on the ice, the ice wouldn't be that safe to walk on. I think it would help (just a wee bit) concentrate the heat from the sun and slowly melt thru the ice, weakening it. It might take a day or two to get to that point, I'm not sure.

sounds like a great idea. i wish i had done that when my pond was froze a few weeks ago. that would have been a great project for my employee since we couldnt spread any asphalt..dang, i am kinda wishing for another cold snap now..

thanks for thoughts good point, I will not walk on it I just want to use it as a way to throw it out further by using the ice. I even thought about turning the aluminum powder into a watered down slurry mix and pump it out so you can see how even it would be and it would sink more slowly as the ice melted maybe making it more effective.

The slurry idea would work as well (I think).
