Two men get pulled over by a RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) in Saskatchewan. Cop walks up & taps on the window with his night-stick. Driver rolls down the window, and WHACK, the cop smacks him on the head.

"What's that for?" the driver asks.

"You're in Saskatchewan ," the cop replies. "When pulled over , you better have your license ready by the time we get to your car."

"Sorry officer," the driver said, "I'm not from around here."

Cop does a check on his license and gives it back to him. He walks to the passenger side & taps on the window. Passenger rolls down the window, and WHACK, the cop smacks him on the head.

"What's that for?" the passenger asks.
"Just making your wish come true," replies the cop.

"Making WHAT wish come true?" the passenger asks.

"Because I know your type," the cop says, "two miles down the
road, you're gonna turn to your buddy and say, 'I wish that jerk
would've tried that crap with me!'"

Cecil -- my first thought was that you shouldn't have to define RCMP.

Then, I read your joke and my second thought: that's a darn good one! :-)

I was just wondering why a cop that pulls over cars would have a night stick. Maybe it's an RCMP thing? Maybe one of our Canadians here can tell us?

I would bet the RCMP don't ride horses much anymore.

Because he's probably got a radio, and the guy on the other end is probably in a plane.

I've heard that joke a few times, but it's always with a different agency... I always have my ASP (expandable baton) on me. Most cops carry their night sticks with them everywhere they go. You honestly never know when you're gonna need it... Traffic stops are one of the most dangerous things we do. You really never know who you're stopping. Could be grandma or it could be someone who just murdered grandma... Tim McVeigh the Oklahoma City bomber was caught by a cop doing a "routine" traffic stop...

Cecil,
Think of it as a tool. I personally liked the Pr 24, a side handle baton, though pepper spray is usually effective in adjusting combative attitudes.

As CJ says you meet some real interesting individuals on the road. That was my favorite part of the job.

I've got my grandfathers' baton, his service revolver, his back-up gun and the revolver that the Chicago PD presented to him when he retired. His baton looks like it was used a few times. ;\) He was a Chicago Policeman from 1919 'till 1949 IIRC. It has a few places on it where the Hickory "stain" is a bit darker....... He went thru a LOT being a beat cop, then a detective in Chicago during the 20's and 30's.

I'll bet he's rolling over in his grave now if he sees the handguns with flashlights attached to them. One night he went into an old building after a bad guy. He was holding his flashlight out to the side of his body, at arms length, searching the building. The bad guy fired at the flashlight, missing my grandfather, but my grandfather returned fire, shooting at the muzzle flash, killing the other guy. If he would have had the flashlight in front of him, he would have been shot.

Sometimes even grand mothers need tough love.

Joking people only joking.

It's easy to criticize law enforcement. But as they say "Before criticizing someone walk a mile in their shoes." LEOs have a tough job with everyone quick to condemn them for taking action or not taking action. I'm a fan of the show "Cops" and I gotta tell ya there's been more than one occasion that after watching some idiot fight a cop I've said to JWHAP "I can't believe the restraint that Cop is using I'd have shot the idiot by now." Personally I think LEOs are under paid and under appreciated.

Besides, I've wanted to tase Yolk Sack for three years.

Just because you're a grandma doesn't mean you don't have a bad attitude. Come to think of it I've run into a few of them with bad attitudes

I guess I just thought of a night stick as something a cop on a walking beat would use.

As far as traffic stops you sure are right about that. There are lots of cops that have been blown away on traffic stops. Several in my state. \:\(

I agree 100%. Plus they normally have most of their contact with people that aren't pillars of society, who usually don't have any respect for the guys in uniform. I think I'd get tired of that really, really quick.
