Ok, I will say this first.

Ths is a crazy idea that won't work but, here we go.

To make this desighn you would dig 3-7 deep holes. When springs fill up these hole and the water spills over the edge dig deep trenches from each spring and conect them. From there you can channel the main creek anywhere you want. Creating your own pools and such.

I have made smaller streams like this. Only 2 feet wide. You would need big machinery to biuld something like that. It would be better to have all the channels and springs to be lined with cement.

In my documents using a free stle drawling mode. I planed a 26 page creek. From the springs to the base.

You could desighn the creek for sertain fish trout, bass, catfish etc.

Tell me what you think.

"Tell me what you think."

We really need a spellcheck on the forum?

I personally find this very interesting - however ambitious it sounds to me with scant ability to pull off something like this.

Tell us more - this sounds very cool.

It all started when I read the book " The fisherman the pacher and the wonderful one trout river". IN ti this one guy digs a channel inbetween a bend of a river and creates an altimate trout habitat. Well I figured why do you need a river just dig springs. Around here you have to dig 5 feet to get a spring going. After the springs are dug channel all the water together to form a creek. Desighning the creek is up to you. Also I found that if you put powerful bubblers ( I used aquarium bubblers ) it can increase the out flow by almost 10 percent.

I am still experimenting but, I would be happy to try to answer any questions.

Very cool therrien. Interested to see what more you add to this. Also, what computer program are you using to design this?

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

When I compare ideas like this to what I have seen WE naturally spawn in, it makes me wonder why you couldn't build something similar for WE spawning?

This afternoon Jacob and I are going to start the first man made creek like this ;).We are using and old creek bed for the main channel. We can change and update the creek bed to a certain desighn. It would be awsome if we had a back hoe and bulldozer to make an artificial creek bed. I'll tell you how it turns out.

Would the spring fed creek be routed into another bow? (as opposed to just letting it run onto a neighbors property..haha)

or would it just soak back into the water table if running over a meadow?

Sounds cool

Is the "creek" going to have a liner or be sealed with clay? An "old creek bed" is usually a "losing" stream, meaning the water will leak into the ground and never pool.

The creek bed holds water. There is no spring to always supply water to it.

Just throwing some "beware of's" out there. I would presume that after a rain, water pools in low areas of the creek till it evaporates?

well Jacob and I modified 100 feet of the creek. We made one big dam (enough to hold 2 brown trout) and one small dam (big enough for a brook trout) 80 feet done 1500 to go. After al of our dams are finished. One person will be in chare of 500 feet. He can make the dams in hhis area bigger or change the creek in his area to how ever he wants.

Any way we can get some pictures of this project? Having trouble visualizing what you're talking about exactly.

Small dams in a stream can really help brook trout survive during dry spells, I put in 3 of them on the trout stream running thru my property.
Just hammer in some steel fence posts and pile in logs and heavy branches, the trout can still move thru the dam if they wish.

Alot like that adirondack pond, except the creek is smaller and we have to alter the whole creek bed.

ok, let me throw an idea in this... could it be like the rivers at water parks ? where the river flows when the pumps are on. You could maybe use solar power to pump the water from the bottom to the top...only problem might be how much solar you would need to do that on any given day. At night the river/stream would only fill the pools .
