So we are supposed to find out if our third child is a boy or a girl next week. I was dead set on finding out immediately until a conversation with Mr. Banks this evening led me to having second thoughts. Now I am just wondering what you all did for your children. I realize that many of our "older" members (Dave Davidson and George, etc) didnt have the option of sonograms and hospitals and stuff back then on the prairie, but how about the rest of you?

Did you find out BD or AD (Before or After Delivery)

AD and AD.

I totally respect either choice. Some people have strong opinions on this, but I think either way is just cool with me. \:\)

My wife and I haven't had kids yet (we're hoping to start that journey in about a year), but we've discussed this topic a bit. She's a mother/baby nurse, and she sees both sides.

AD--It is more "exciting" post-delivery because of the surprise.

BD--Better for planning, apparently. Embroidered blankets, hats, shirts, etc. with the baby's name; planning a nursery at home (color, decorations).

I couldn't have made this post without her input, by the way. \:\)

#1 (son) AD, although I had a very strong feeling based on sonogram evidence.

#2 (daughter) BD (I have prenatal chromosome pics!).

IMHO who cares whether you know or what sex it is. (If you feel different, suit yourselves. And keep Mama happy.) You have one of each now, am I right?

During delivery. I was in the OR and was the first to see the oldest. The second one was almost born in the hallway but the same thing but no mask on yet that time.

We do have a boy and a girl already. I just think it would be exciting to not find out until delivery. I am currently negotiating with Brook on this. She would like to plan, I would like the surprise.

She is considering my proposal of looking at the sonogram pics to see the baby, but not being told by the "expert" the gender. That way I figure we still have a 50/50 shot of knowing for sure whether its a boy or a girl.

I sure couldnt see the boys dilly on the last sonogram!

BD & BD. The technology is here and noninvasive. But I understand both sides like Brucille said. Someone said it's the only true surprise you ever get.

But really, Brooke was pregnant???? I had no idea!

If you had both existing kids as one sex, I'd be finding out for the third.

But either way, congratulations!

n8ly, Wait and be happy. I know of a few cases where the sonogram was not accurate. Anyway prayers for another healthy child for your family.

Does knowing in advance really matter to you? It may be more convenient for planning purposes but you will be happy no matter what the outcome. As long as baby and Mom are OK, it really doesn't matter to me.

On my 3rd child the Nurse said "Wow, look at the whanger on that boy". Turned out to be a girl.

2 names besides "Herman", unless you'd really like a "Herman Herman" in the family.

Congrats Nate!! I had no idea your beautiful wife was so pregnant! I found out on both BD, but I can see the excitement of waiting - especially since you have both already. Someone else I knew had the doctor/sonogram person write down the sex and then they sealed the envelope and waited for a special moment later in the pregnancy to read it ~ like on the beach at sunset.

1st boy - BD (C-Section)
2nd boy - AD (Natural)
The speed with which ones eyes goes to the groin area in a case where you don't know the sex is unmeasurable...

Cool, what a great idea. My fiance and I might have to consider that when we are ready to start having kids in a year or two.

AD & AD. Best surprises I've ever had, especially the last one. Everyone guessed it was going to be a boy...even mamma. No big deal either way, but it is definitely suspenseful by waiting.

We decided BD as well. For us, the excitement/surprise was together in that little room looking at that screen. I don't know if the surprise would be the same if you find out in the delivery room, but a lot of things are going on at that time, so maybe it wouldn't mean as much to you as a couple as opposed to a quiet room and a screen. Plus, the planning. And I think this is underrated. For baby shower planning, especially, being able to tell your friends and family helps them decide what gifts to give the expecting couple. That's my opinion anyway, but I'm a curious guy who couldn't wait to find out. What's funny, is we didn't exactly have the option either. The doctor panicked a bit and quickly asked as we were looking at the screen if we wanted to know. Even our untrained eyes could tell it was a boy.

Wow! What timing my wife is pregnant with our first (just found out last week) and we were having this exact discussion (I guess, who doesn't). We are leaning towards BD for planning purposes.

Either a Girl or Boy first, we will be happy but we both would like to have a boy first, you know that older boy protective of the younger sister thing...Although in my case I was the instigator instead of protector. \:\)

That's what I said too, but when I found out it was a boy, I said, phew didn't know what I was going to do if it was a girl. \:D

BD but we were just excited to get one. I can see you leaning toward AD since you got one of both.

Congratulations Nate and ceadmin!!!

I was going to make a wise crack about spawing habitat but then thought better of it. I hate it when my conscious get's in the way of a good joke.

Hey Nate

Our kids were both BD - but I understand the benefits of both sides of the situation. We figured there was so much else left to the unknown we wanted to prepare for something for certain.

I am hoping for a very smooth delivery and a happy healthy baby and Mom!
